Frequently Asked Questions

How do I book my scan?

The simplest way to book your scan is via our website booking page. We ask you to select a scan, a time and date and then fill out some details. You will then receive a booking confirmation email. It’s as easy as that!

Can I still have a scan even if don’t want to know baby’s gender?

Yes we can do a scan for you without disclosing the gender. We can keep it a secret during the scan if you don’t want to know or put in an envelope for you to open later. We also have confetti cannons which you can use to reveal the gender.

How accurate are gender scans?

We can never be 100% accurate with gender. This is the case for all ultrasound scans at any clinic. However, at BabyCare Scanning we will always strive to be accurate as possible and it is unlikely that we will get it incorrect. We have long appointment slots to allow us to check thoroughly. We cannot accept liability for incorrect gender determination.

Can we keep the gender a surprise to find out after the scan?

Yes! We can keep the gender a secret and write it down for you to find out at a gender reveal or simply just with your partner in a special moment. If you would like a reveal cannon, teddy or scratch card to help with the reveal- we can organise all of this for you! Just let us know at the start of the scan.

What is a 4D scan?

A 4D scan allows you to view your baby in lifelike, amazing detail. The ultrasound machine uses software to turn the normal black and white 2D ultrasound image into a 3D image of your baby. 4D is essentially a 3D scan in real time-a moving 3D scan.

How early can I attend for an early pregnancy scan?

We can scan from 6 weeks. We ask that you try to ensure you are at least 6 weeks before coming for a scan. If you are earlier than this we may not be able to confirm a viable pregnancy. We understand that sometimes you may be unsure of your dates, if you need advice just get in touch and we will do our best to help.

Can I attend the clinic if I have pain, bleeding or reduced movements?

We always advise if you have pain, bleeding or reduced movements to contact your midwife or local maternity unit right away. Do not delay as your local maternity unit is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

What happens if baby is in a poor position?

If we can’t get baby to behave and we are not getting good views, then we will always offer a free rescan to try again for good images. The full scan price is payable before your rescan is booked.

Can I do anything before my scan to increase the chance of getting good views of baby?

If you have driven a long way to get to the clinic, we advise to arrive a little early to go for a short walk before your scan. You can try eating something sweet or having a fizzy drink too. In the days leading up to your scan try to keep hydrated to increase amniotic fluid levels.

What factors affect ultrasound image quality?

Several factors affect image quality. This can include:

  • High maternal BMI

  • Position of Baby

  • Amount of amniotic fluid

  • Position of Placenta

  • Gestation later than 33 weeks

Can I bring guests with me to my scan?

Yes, you are welcome to bring guests with you. We ask that you don’t bring more than 4 extra guests. However, if you do wish to bring more, just let us know and we will do our best to accommodate this. Children are welcome.
